Results of Round One Public Workshops

During our Round One Public Workshops, we set up a series of stations to teach people about transit planning. The stations covered five topic areas: the long-range planning process, transit's relationship to economic development, possible transit modes, service amenities, and funding.

We called this Transit 101. The fifth and sixth stations were exercises that our new transit planners worked through to tell us their preferences and priorities for transit service corridors, modes, amenities, and other enhancements.

Below, you will see two pie charts and a map showing participants' preferences from among the choices we presented at the Public Workshops. The map only indicates where people want to see transit expand; it is not yet part of any plan to increase or expand transit services in the St. Louis region.

Our Metro planners will now take this input, along with input gathered through this website, by email and mail, and their own expertise, and use it to create a draft transit plan for the St. Louis region over the next thirty years. The results of the initial workshops and potential strategies for meeting the needs of the region will be presented to the public at the Round Two meetings starting on December 7, 2009.

While light rail remains the most popular option for transit expansion, Bus Rapid Transit was a close second place. Many Transit 101 participants drew Bus Rapid Transit corridors on their system map.

 Preferred transit amenities

Security and Lighting, followed closely by Shelters & Seating, were the most popular transit amenities. Many people expressed a desire for benches at bus stops and a more comfortable waiting environment.

Transit Corridor Preferences

We asked people at the workshops to tell us where they want to see transit service expansion and/or upgrades. The map below shows people's preferred transit corridors and the strength of that preference.

Remember, this is just where people told us they would like to see better transit connections, not a map of future expansion.
