Moving Transit Forward is a long-range planning process that will create and maintain a thirty-year transit plan for the St. Louis region. Through public input and consideration of existing and future transit technologies, service levels, and passenger amenities, our goal is to build a plan that will address the transit needs of the entire region.

St. Louis is a region of 2.5 million people. Over the next thirty years, that number will increase while the region and its people age. As we grow older, will we be able to keep our mobility and independence?

what will the final plan look like?

The final plan will be a fiscally constrained, three-phased, thirty-year plan that focuses on immediate, short-term, and long-term goals for transit enhancements, upgrades, and expansion. By tying the levels of service to funding goals, people will be able to see how much the services will cost to create and operate, as well as the priority of service implementation.

1-5 year action plan:

  • Restore service that was cut in March 2009 where practical
  • Enhance service and amenities to make transit experience more pleasant and convenient
  • Begin planning any light trail or commuter rail transit expansion
  • Implement any Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service and park-ride lots at BRT stations.

5-10 year investments:

  • Construction of BRT, light rail, and/or transit centers

10-30 year investments:

  • Further study of potential corridors or additional technologies
  • Development and implementation of land-use strategies that support and encourage transit use
